TripAdvisor Acquires Social Mapping Platform Citymaps

TripAdvisor has acquired Citymaps, a self-described social mapping platform that highlights local points of interest, with information, photos and reviews, which can then be saved to personalised maps to share with friends.
Its not hard to see why TripAdvisor might be interested in the business; its certainly a good fit for the destination reviews platform.
“The Citymaps team understands how people experience their day through a maps lens,” said Adam Medros, senior vice president, global product, TripAdvisor. “We are excited to welcome the team to the TripAdvisor family of brands to help TripAdvisor ensure its mapping features best address the needs of its users who are increasingly accessing the site on mobile devices.” 
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Citymaps will continue to operate as a standalone business within TripAdvisor.
