Russell_Westbrook_dribbling_vs_Cavs_(cropped)US network operator Verizon has signed a deal with the National Basketball Association to bring daily video content to the companys mobile streaming app Go90, delivering league highlights to customers.

The multiyear deal also includes original content and access to live out-of-market games through the NBAs League Pass feature. Customers will also have access to exclusive NBA-related non-video content, and be able to edit and share selected clips via SMS and social media.

The deal gives Verizon access to footage from the NBA and WNBA (Womens National Basketball Association) as well as the organisations development league. As part of the partnership, Verizon will become the sponsor of the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk contest, as well as a presenting partner for the NBA Draft and other seasonal events.

“Theres never been a more exciting time to be teaming with the NBA,” said Diego Scotti, chief marketing officer at Verizon. “The NBA has rapidly evolved into a year-round digital experience that engages millions of young, cross-cultural fans, in many interesting ways.

“We are always looking for new ways to add value for our customers, and this partnership creates great opportunities to do just that. Were thrilled to bring exclusive and awesome content to Go90 and to offer unprecedented access to unique experiences.”

Verizon began trials of the Go90 service in early September, providing a select set of customers with access to over 100 hours of video content from a number of online networks in an effort to compete with services like YouTube and Facebook.

The Go90 app is largely aimed at under 30s, and is in the process of integrating video and ad targeting technology that Verizon gained during its acquisition of AOL.

“Verizon has an outstanding reputation for reliability and innovation, and thanks to this new partnership the NBA will be able to connect with fans in places and ways we never have before,” said Bill Koenig, president of global media distribution at the NBA. “As one of the countrys leading mobile providers, we are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Verizon on their Go90 platform to deliver a new mobile experience for NBA fans.”
