Walmarts Mobile Pay Completes Rollout

walmart payRetail giant Walmart has completed the rollout of its Walmart Pay mobile payment system across the United States, and has announced that the solution has seen high uptake, with 88 per cent of transactions coming from repeat users.

The mobile payment system launched in December 2015, and was integrated into Walmarts existing app, which already boasted 22m users a month and consistently ranked among the top three retail apps in both the iOS and Android app stores.

According to Walmart, overall transactions on the app jumped 45 per cent in the last week, as the brand promoted the completion of its rollout and new consumers tried out the solution at the final wave of stores.

However, Walmart has not disclosed the actual number of app users, or what percentage of those with the companys app have tried using the mobile payment solution.

“There is something very powerful about the ease and simplicity of Walmart Pay,” said Daniel Eckert, senior vice president of services for Walmart US. “Whats even more powerful though, is what this means for our customers.

“We want to make every day easier for busy families. Were connecting all the parts of Walmart into one seamless shopping experience with great stores, easy pickup, fast delivery, frictionless checkout, and apps and websites that are simple to use.”

The company is monitoring shopping patterns associated with mobile payments, and so far has not seen any increase in spending as a result of using the app. Walmart does not accept external mobile wallets like Apple Pay or Android Pay at its stores, although discussions to accept these are ongoing.

“Walmart Pay is just the beginning,” said Eckert. “Were building deeper relationships with our customers across our ecosystem and are looking forward to delivering new tools like Walmart Pay that allow them to use the Walmart App as their remote control for a faster, more convenient shopping experience.”
