WWF-Canada Launches Smartphone Apps

WWF-Canada and Polar Mobile have teamed up for the launch of a raft of smartphone apps. Using its SMART Platform, Polar Mobile has designed an app that works across all major smartphones and gives users updates on the latest WWF-Canada news, from conservation successes, stories and videos, to details on upcoming events in Canada and around the world. The app also includes important WWF-related news feeds such as media releases, blog posts, and Twitter.

With approximately 5m current smartphone users in Canada, according to research from Neilsen Online, mobile platforms are growing in popularity with large segments of the Canadian population. In the highly competitive charitable sector, mobile technology opens up an important new avenue for not-for-profits to explore.

“This is an exciting and important step for us, that gives us access to new audiences in a new way, and one which we expect to become more and more important as mobile technology progresses,” says WWF-Canada vice president, marketing and communications, Christina Topp. “We are thrilled to be working with Polar Mobile in helping WWF-Canada connect with supporters.”

WWF-Canada is the first not-for-profit organization in Canada to use Polar Mobile technology to develop a smartphone app. The WWF-Canada apps are available for direct download to BlackBerry, iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7 devices here, or by searching for ‘WWF-Canada’ in BlackBerry App World, Android Market, Windows Marketplace or iTunes.
