Yahoo acquires SkyPhrase

World Communication MontageYahoo has acquired SkyPhrase, a startup specialising in natural language processing – the kind of technology that currently drives Google Now and Apples Siri.

Since it was founded in 2011, SkyPhrase has worked on helping computers understand human speech.

With a team of just four people, its a less high-profile acquisition than some of the other companies Yahoo has snapped up this year, but its not hard to see how the company could make use of the technology, whether for search or in its other products – an early demo of the technology focused on fantasy football, something which is already in Yahoos offering.
