In a brave move by Yahoo, the company has announced that it is rolling back and eventually eliminating Facebook and Google sign in for its services in favour of a single Yahoo account for each user.

Facebook and Google are really considered the best ways to personalise experiences, track users cross-device and retarget them with ads, but Yahoo says its single sign-in will enable it to offer the ‘best personalised service’.

If people comply, rather than voting with their feet, this will no doubt boost user figures, and then data acqusition and ad targeting across the company. Many of its existing services, like Flickr, require the user to create a Yahoo email account.

The first service to use the new Yahoo sign-in process is Yahoo Sports Tourney PickEm, a US college basketball tournament that it sponsors.
