YouGov: NFC Awareness Grows Two Per Cent in 2013

nfcPublic awareness of NFC has grown by just two per cent over the past year, according to a YouGov poll of more than 1,000 people.

Just 35 per cent of UK adults are now aware of the technology, dropping down to 9 per cent of people who know whether their phone actually offers it. Of people who know they have an NFC handset, just 22 per cent use it to make payments.

Many are still skeptical. Over half are not interested or believe the tech is unsafe, while 39 per cent dont see a need for it.

Contactless cards, meanwhile, have soared from 55 per cent awareness to 70 per cent from September 2012 to 2013, according to the The Future of Mobile Digital and Contactless Payments report. But, just 25 per cent of people know they have a contactless card and of those, only 40 per cent use it.
