100m People Using Facebooks Feature Phone App

Facebook For Every Phone, the feature phone-friendly version of the social networking app, has broken the 100m user mark.

“Facebook’s mission is to make the world more open and connected, and Facebook For Every Phone enables people around the globe to connect to the people and things they care about most, no matter what kind of mobile device they use,” said Ran Makavy, growth manager at Facebook and founder of Snaptu, acquired by Facebook in 2011, which provides the technology powering the app.

Launched two years ago, the app is part of a strategy to reach developing markets like India, Indonesia and the Philippines, to use Makavys examples. The app runs on more than 3,000 handsets, and is optimised to minimise data usage.

As part of the strategy, Facebook has also partnered with mobile operators to offer free or discounted data access to Facebook For Every Phone
