100m Texts a Day in 2006

The Mobile Data Association (MDA) is forecasting that the number of text messages delivered in the UK next year will total 36.5 billion. As those who paid attention in maths lessons at school will realise, this equates to a cool 100 million messages per day.
If achieved, the figure will be three times the number delivered in 2001, more than twice the number delivered in 2002, and 14% up on the 32 billion estimate for this year.
The MDA is currently into Phase 6 of its generic awareness campaign to promote the benefits of text messaging on its Text.it website, though with figures like these, whether there is a need for Phase 7 is a moot point.
