Yelp.com had 9.4m unique users of its app during the first month of 2013, with 4.6m calls made and 5.7m sets of directions generated through it. This contributed to a record 100m unique visitors across its mobile and desktop review and recommendations sites during January. This is an all-time high for the company and a significant increase on the 84m reported in the previous quarter. The numbers of visitors to its mobile site were not broken out in the figures.
Founded in 2004 in the US, Yelp says it is now getting serious about the UK and Europe. It recently purchased the European local review site, Qype, and a new London office. Yelps content is fully integrated with the Apple Maps, Siri and Bing. The company also has in-dash automotive partnerships with Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus.
In a survey of business owners by Yelp, the company found that the average customer across all categories spends around £65 on their first visit.
