$17.5m Investment for SwiftKey

SwiftKey has landed $17.5M (£11.3m) in series B investment.

The company says it will use the funding to improve its predictive keyboard technology, particularly in the areas of natural language processing and machine learning, and expand its product portfolio. The money will also help with its US rollout, which co-founder and CEO Jon Reynolds relocating to San Francisco to oversee.

“Smartphones and tablets are revolutionizing the way we communicate – but there’s still so much potential for innovation and we’re determined to lead the transformation of this space,” said Reynolds. “This major finance round enables us to aggressively pursue that vision, breaking new ground with our world-class language technology.”

Founded in 2008, the company has grown its revenues fivefold year-on-year, with SwiftKey the top-selling paid Android app in 2012.
