2012 Mobile Sales Have Already Topped 2011s Record

It only took until 9 July this year for sales on mobile devices to exceed the entire total of 2011, according to performance marketing network Affiliate Window. Thats just one of the findings from the second edition of its mCommerce whitepaper which looks at trends in sales and traffic on its network over the last six months.

“In May we reached nearly 8 per cent of sales coming through a mobile device – including Tablets,” says report author Matt Swan. “This was up from 7.3 per cent in April and 3.9 per cent from last year. In May, over 140,000 transactions came through mobile devices, compared to just over 60,000 for May last year.”

Mobile traffic to affiliate sites jumped to 12 per cent of all visits in April 2012, from 2 per cent in January 2011.

In terms of platforms, Apple continues to dominate the world of mCommerce. The iPad accounts for 40 per cent of all mobile traffic, and the iPhone 37 per cent, leaving Android to bring up the rear at 17 per cent.

The iPad is even more dominant in terms of sales share, making up a mighty 55 per cent of all sales on the network. The iPhone, meanwhile, represents 29 per cent of sales, with Android in third place again, at 11 per cent.
