3 has released details of the price of its X-Series unlimited mobile Internet service, and to say it is pricing the service aggressively is something of an understatement. X-Series is being offered in two mobile broadband packages: X-Series Gold costs 10 per month. X-Series Silver costs just 5 per month.
Both packages offer unlimited mobile Internet access, free Skype calls, free webmail, and unlimited access to Windows Live Messenger. In addition, Gold users get Orb, which enables them to remotely access files stored on their PC, and Slingbox, which enables them to access their home TV programmes, including subscription channels, on their mobile, so long as they have a Slingbox connected to their set-top box at home. 3 is offering the Slingbox to X-Series customers for 99.99.
The only caveat on the packages is a Fair Use policy, with limits of 1GB per month web browsing, 10,000 Windows Live messages per month, 5,000 Skype-to-Skype minutes per month, and 80 hours access to Orb and Slingbox.
The one thing X-Series does not include is regular (non-Skype) voice calling, for which subscribers need a voice tariff. For regular talk & text packages, these start at 35, giving a total monthly bill for voice, text and unlimited mobile Internet access, of 40.
X-Series is mobile Internet as it was meant to be – unlimited access and free at the point of use says 3 Marketing Director Graeme Oxby. Moving away from charges per call, per megabyte and per message will set consumers free to enjoy mobile broadband services without having to think about what its costing. So if youre an X-Series customer with 3, your Skype calls, instant messaging, emailing, and internet searching wont cost you another penny.
