One last piece of 4G news for the day, as 3 – now the only MNO in the UK without a high-speed offering – has confirmed its plans for a 4G switch on, starting this December.
After an initial launch in three cities – London, Birmingham and Manchester – the rollout will accelerate in January, with 3 promising 4G availability in 50 cities by the end of 2014, and 98 per cent of the UK population in 2015.
As previously reported, 3 will offer 4G access at no extra cost. That, along with the company promising its all-you-can-eat data plans will carry across, is perhaps the biggest point of difference compared to the UKs other operators, which require subscribers to move to a more expensive tariff, often with tight limits on data.
