3GVision has released its Mobile Barcode Usage report for the month of February. The report reveals strong growth in Scandinavia, with the number of scans in Norway up by 87.7 per cent, and in Sweden, up by 65 per cent. The number of scans in the US continues increased by 47.2 per cent, and by 126.1 per cent compared to December 2010. On a global basis, the number of scans increased by 10.7 per cent, compared to January, and by 233 per cent, compared to July 2010
The top 10 countries for mobile barcode usage during February 2011 were:
- United States
- Italy
- Germany
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- Netherlands
- France
- Hong Kong
- Spain
- Taiwan
The top 5 countries in terms of growth were:
- Norway (87.7 per cent)
- Sweden (65.0 per cent)
- United Kingdom (49.0 per cent)
- United States (47.2 per cent)
- Spain (21.7 per cent)
The stats are based on the total number of QRcode, Datamatrix and UPC/EAN
scans recorded by 3GVision’s i-nigma system during the relevant periods. Because of i-nigma’s prominence in many markets worldwide, the company believes that these numbers are likely to be indicative of global mobile barcode activity. The stats do not, however, include activity in Japan. If they did, 3GVision says they would show the country to be well ahead in terms of the popularity and usage of mobile barcodes. For better representation of global open market trends, the stats specifically exclude the activity of i-nigma-based solutions that are used by its vertical customers.
