41 Per Cent of Brand Emails Opened on Mobile, says Knotice

41 per cent of the emails sent by brands were opened on a smartphone or tablet in the second half of 2012, according to a report from data management firm KnoticeThats up from 27 per cent a year earlier, and Knotice predicts the figure will hit 50 per cent by the end of the year.

The number breaks down into 29 per cent smartphones – up from 21 per cent a year earlier – and 12 per cent tablets – from seven per cent. In both cases, Apple devices dominated – with iOS accounting for four of every five emails opened on smartphones, and nearly all of those opened on tablets.

According to the report, emails are most likely to be opened on mobile devices outside of work hours, during the evening or early morning. Mobile devices arent used merely to filter emails for reading later on desktop, either, with only two per cent of users later opening an email on another device after ignoring it on mobile.
