More than 4m people in the UK will buy or receive a tablet this Christmas, according to new data from YouGov, commissioned by Newsworks.

16.5m adults in the UK already own a tablet, with the number set to crash past 20m over the festive period.

The study found that 2.9m consumers plan to buy a tablet, while 1.3m people expect to receive one. 35-44 year olds are most likely to buy a tablet as a gift for someone else, while 18-24 year olds are most hopeful about receiving one. Six out of 10 buyers expect to spend less than £200 on a tablet, while more than one in four people (27 per cent) buying tablets as presents will give them to a child aged 10 or under (27%), with 7 per cent buying them for children as young as five or under.

21 per cent of buyers have not decided which brand they are going to buy. Among those intending to buy an Apple tablet, the iPad Air tops for list, with 16 per cent planning to buy this device.
