90,000 Downloads for Guardians iPad Photography App

The Guardian reports that its Eyewitness Photography app for the iPad, produced in association with Canon, has been downloaded over 90,000 times from the App Store since the iPad’s US launch on 3 April.

The app, which is now available for free in all countries where the iPad is on sale, showcases the Guardian’s popular Eyewitness images. These images are printed in full colour in the centre spread of the Guardian newspaper each day to showcase some of the world’s best news photography.

“To have our app on so many iPads in the US is a fantastic achievement, and has enabled us to reach new audiences,” says Emily Bell, director of digital content, Guardian News & Media (GNM). “We are looking forward to even more people downloading it now that the device is available outside of the US.”

The app showcases the most recent 100 Eyewitness images, enabling users to save their favourites, and share images with their contacts via email, Twitter or Facebook. Each image is also accompanied by a ‘pro tip’ from the Guardian’s photographic team, to give professional insights into the composition or technical specification of a particular image.
