Public wi-fi provider The Cloud is rolling out a content portal at UK train stations, with text and video content from Sky News and Sky Sports News. Starting today at London Euston station, which introduced free Cloud wi-fi a couple of months ago, the portal will roll out across 52 transport hubs across the country during the summer.
According to The Cloud, real-time local and national travel news – including a Tube departure board, a TfL journey planner, and information on service disruptions – will be introduced to the portal over the summer.
The content portal is monetised via advertising space, with options to target user by location, time or device – the first advertiser signed up is Gregg’s.
“We know that people value being able to keep up to date with the latest breaking news and sports stories,” says Vince Russell, managing director of The Cloud. “And this service allows free access to all users, whether waiting for a train or simply enjoying a coffee in the station. This is the first in a number of new services we’re working on to enhance the wi-fi experience for our users, so we’re looking forward to announcing further innovations over the coming months.”
Its certainly good fit between content and situation, but one question remains: how will the content introduced be mobile-optimised?
