22 per cent of tablet owners spend $50 (£31) or more every month using their device, while 9 per cent spend $100 (£63) or more, according to an ABI Research report.
The ‘Consumer Media Tablet Usage’ survey found that price checking, redeeming coupons and location-based searches were the most popular activities, all performed by more than 50 per cent of tablet shoppers in the previous 90 days. Tablets are increasingly being used in conjunction with other media, rather than overtly cannibalising them, the research said, with 17 per cent using their device in conjunction with a newspaper or magazine, and 14 per cent alongside TV.
ABI Research estimates that nearly 200m tablets had been shipped worldwide between 2009 and the close of 2012. An extra 1bn tablets are forecasted to be sold over the next five years.
