Absolute Releases App Usage Figures

Absolute Radio has released mobile listening data that reveals how many mobile app downloads (not including updates) the brand has received, but also how many monthly active users it has.

In January, Absolute Radio’s mobile apps had 222,000 active users. On average each of these active users used an Absolute Radio app 7.5 times, creating 1.6million listening occasions. In total Absolute Radio has received 1.6m smartphone application downloads (not including updates).

The average Absolute Radio mobile app user is spending 37 minutes per month within an Absolute Radio app. Absolute Radio’s latest iPhone app, however, Rock ‘N’ Roll Football Live Scores, which offers real-time access to the latest Premier League scores and live commentary, had an average in-app dwell time of 57 minutes on a Premier League match Saturday during January.

“This new mode of engagement is allowing us to learn more about our digital audience and our ever increasing mobile community to further enhance radio’s accountability,” says Absolute Radio COO, Clive Dickens. “I look forward to welcoming other UK radio brands to this new metric to aid better comparison of scale.”

In total, The Absolute Radio Network also serviced 17.2m hours of online content in January (including live online streamed hours, live mobile streamed hours and on-demand). This figure shows an increase of 45 per cent from December.

Absolute Radio is the only commercial UK station to release its streamed or on demand listening hours data and make this information public. It is also the only station to have released any information on active mobile app use.
