Data peripheral manufacturer, Access Interface Solutions (Access IS), has released a miniature barcode imager, the LSR110, which is designed to read barcoded vouchers from mobile phone and PDA displays.
As mobile devices with multimedia capability become widely adopted, retailers will increasingly use mobile coupons as a low-cost and dynamic way to attract customers to their retail stores, the company says. Vouchers can be delivered to a targeted sample of a retailers customer loyalty database, or downloaded on request from a website, or by text message. Once received, coupons will be redeemed by presenting a mobile device face down on to the LSR110, where the barcode is read on contact, making it simpler to use than a traditional hand-held wand, the company claims. 
The LSR110 is available as a desktop device for use with retail point of sale equipment and as a rugged module for integration into self-service kiosks, making it suitable for use by the general public. 
The LSR is a compact device, with overall dimensions of
90x120x70mm. USB, RS232 and keyboard interface options are available. As well as simple linear codes, the imager can read 2D pixel-based symbologies, such as Aztec, Datamatrix, QR and PDF417. It will also read paper-printed barcodes, and can be used as a conventional omni-directional scanner.
Access IS designs, manufactures and distributes innovative equipment that enables fast and accurate input of information into electronic systems. Products include custom and standard computer keyboards, keypads, OCR and biometric passport readers, barcode readers, magnetic swipe card readers and smartcard readers.
The companys main markets are retail point-of-sale, retail banking, airports (check-in systems and boarding gate readers), stock exchanges, rugged mobile computing and industrial equipment. Major customers include Harrods, the New York Stock Exchange, Barclays Bank, British Airways and Qantas.
