AdMob has reacted angrily to new developer terms outlined by Apple at its Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday, saying that, if enforced as written, they would prohibit app developers from using AdMob and Google’s advertising solutions on the iPhone.
In a blog post, AdMob founder Omar Hamoiu says the new terms “threatens to decrease – or even eliminate – revenue that helps to support tens of thousands of developers.” He adds that the terms will hurt both large and small developers by severely limiting their choice of how best to make money. “And because advertising funds a huge number of free and low cost apps, these terms are bad for consumers as well” he says.
Hamoui concludes that the change is not in the best interests of users or developers, contrasting Apple’s approach to AdMob own in helping developers make money, regardless of platform. He says that AdMob will be speaking to Apple to express the firm’s concerns about the impact of the terms.
