Starting today, Adobe Flash Player will no longer be available on Android devices. The plug-in has been pulled from the Google Play store, as Adobe stops development of the software for mobile devices.
Its not quite as simple as Flash vanishing from the face of Android, however. Devices with Flash Player already installed, or those which come with it preinstalled, will still be able to use the plug-in – though presumably mobile content creators will avoid the format going forward.
Adobe has cited poor compatibility with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) as the reason behind the move, but its the final step on a path which began in 2010 when Apple banned the software from its devices.
