Taipei-based advertising technology company Appier has raised $6m (£3.5m) in funding from Sequoia Captial, the venture capitalist firm that acted as an early investor in companies including Apple, LinkedIn and Google.
Appier offers an ad optimisation engine that utilises a combination of big data, real-time bidding and artificial intelligence to track behaviours and make sure advertisements reach their target audience across multiple screens. The engine follows mobile use and detect screen type and time of use, allowing it to recognise that, for example, someone who uses their phone consistently during the morning commute is a good target for a coffee shop ad.
Speaking to TechCrunch, Appier CEO Chi-Han Yu said that he hopes to use the funding to finance further research and product development for the companys integrated cross-screen targeting platform, as well as expand its international sales offices beyond its current base in Asia.
“For marketing opportunity, I think there is a huge growth in the region for mobile and multi-screen marketing,” said Yu. “End users start getting second, third, fourth screens, etc. Advertisers need a solution to reach targeted audiences via optimal screen path. I think there will be more and more demand.”
