The Co-operative has worked with marketing agency Refinery and creative production studio Mi to develop an iOS app intended to help save the worlds bees. The Pollinator, part of the supermarket’s Plan Bee initiative, is a touchscreen-controlled game featuring a time-travelling bee sent back from the future to save bees from extinction – hence the title.
As well as the de rigeur social integration – including Facebook and Twitter leaderboards – the app includes tips instructing the user on how to help bees in their own garden.
“The Co-operative approached us to create an app for Plan Bee to help build awareness of the issues facing honey bees and other pollinators, and to complement the work Refinery has done on this project,” says Joe Bowler, director of Refinery. “The game gets an important message across in a fun way, and will spread among core target audiences through social channels.”
