Alcatel-Lucent has launched its OpenTouch Conversation (OTC) software, which enables businesses to move between communications devices and methods – including voice calls, IM, video, and data sharing – without interrupting their conversations.
The idea is that a user can begin with call from an office phone, move the conversation to a video conference on a Tablet, and then conclude the call on a mobile phone.
“The genius behind OpenTouch Conversation is that it leverages the power of smart devices and reconciles all the modes of communication in one place in an intuitive, easy-to-use interface,” says Eric Penisson, VP and GM, Alcatel-Lucent enterprise communications business. “This new communications breakthrough pushes the evolution of unified communications and bring your own device.”
OTC is built – as the name might suggest – on the company’s OpenTouch communications platform, and runs over wi-fi and 3G networks. The first iteration will support iPad only, but the company says it will be adding support for Windows, Android, iOS, and Blackberry shortly.
