Amazon Adds Unity Plug-Ins for Kindle Fire Apps

Amazon has launched free Unity plug-ins for its In-App Purchasing and Amazon GameCircle APIs, enabling Unity developers to add these features into their Kindle Fire apps.

The GameCircle APIs can be used to add Achievements, Leaderboards, and Whispersync for Games features to apps built using Unity, a popular game development tool which has been used to create apps such as Temple Run.

“Amazon’s In-App Purchasing and GameCircle APIs help developers reach more customers, keep them engaged, and make more money. Every week millions of customers are playing GameCircle enabled games and are able to compare scores and compete against friends,” said Mike Frazzini, Director of Amazon Games. “We want to make it as easy as possible for developers to quickly integrate these features and our new, free plug-ins make it incredibly simple to do so for anyone using Unity.”

Amazon has also updated its Android app store, adding support for Jelly Bean 4.2 and fixing a variety of bugs, as well as tweaking navigation to add long press interaction. Perhaps most notable though, is the revamp of the Appstore UI, which brings it closer in line with the stores appearance on Kindle Fire HD.
