This Thanksgiving, Amazon has decided to give thanks to Australian retailers by making its long-awaited retail arrival in Australia.
As first reported by Lifehacker Australia, Amazon has started an internal testing phase with a small group of customers, which means these customers will be able to get Black Friday bargains from the eCommerce giant.
Amazon has yet to comment on the launch of the trial, so the size of the test group and the date set for a wider rollout both remain unknown.
The imminent arrival of Amazon’s online retail business in the world’s 12th largest economy has seen shares fall across the Australian brick-and-mortar retail sector. Back in September, word of Amazon’s arrival put buyers off purchasing the Blackstone Group’s Australian shopping mall portfolio. The parent company of The Weather Channel, Michaels malls, Hilton Worldwide, and Merlin Entertainment had expected to sell its group of malls for Aus$3.5bn (£2.15bn at the time), but had to call the sale of because there was only interest in individual assets, as opposed to the whole portfolio.
