Amazon is buying home wi-fi startup Eero

EeroAmazon has put pen to paper on an agreement to acquire home mesh router startup Eero, with an eye on making it easier for people to connect their smart home devices. The terms were not disclosed.

Eero, founded in 2014, competes with the likes of Google and Netgear to provide router products. Instead of providing a single router device, it deals with coverage issues through multiple access points that work together to provide blanket coverage across the home. The system is controlled by a companion app.

“We are incredibly impressed with the Eero team and how quickly they invented a wi-fi solution that makes connected devices just work,” said Dave Limp, SVP of devices and services at Amazon. “We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we’re committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.”

Nick Weaver, co-founder and CEO of Eero, added: “By joining the Amazon family, we’re excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the future of the home, accelerate our mission, and bring Eero systems to more customers around the globe.”
