Amazon.co.uk has been named the top mCommerce site in the UK by traffic in a study from IMRG and Experian. The retailer appears again on the list, with its .com site taking third place – and between the two, it accounts for over 10 per cent of visits to mobile retail sites.
By comparison, the second most visited, Argos, makes up 2.3 per cent of all visits. Argos recently announced that mCommerce accounts for 10 per cent of its total sales.
Filling out the rest of the top 10, in descending order, were Next, Tesco, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, ASOS, John Lewis and New Look. The study also looked at the most visited desktop sites, producing a remarkably similar top 10. The one exception is Apple, which comes second in the desktop rankings but is absent on mobile.
“The shift away from desktop to mobile internet use is ever more apparent, and it is no surprise to see a number of mobile providers rising up the rankings in the latest Hot Shops List,” said IMRG chief information officer Tina Spooner. “mCommerce continues to record triple-digit growth and now accounts for 20 per cent of the UK online retail market, having grown from less than one per cent in 2010. Mobile now account for almost a third of all online retail visits in the UK which reflects a changing attitude among consumers. Retailers that continue to invest in their mobile operations will, no doubt, continue to reap the rewards.”
