Amazon has launched Amazon Coins, its virtual currency for purchasing apps and in-app items, for Kindle Fire users in the US.
To encourage adoption, Amazon has deposited $5-worth of Coins into Kindle users accounts. Theres also a discount of up to 10 per cent for buying the Coins in bulk, and Amazon promises that going forward it will “continue to add more ways to earn and spend Coins on a wider range of content and activities”.
For developers, the launch shouldnt make too much of a difference – theyll still receive the standard 70 per cent revenue share from purchases made with Coins, and apps dont require any tweaks to be made compatible with the currency.
