Amazon launches way for teens to shop on their own, while keeping their parents informed

Amazon for teensAmazon has introduced a way for teenagers to the use the Amazon app independently, while their parents are still aware of their activity.

The service, which can be accessed via amazon.com/forteens, enables parents to approve all orders or set pre-approved spending limits per order.

“As a parent of a teen, I know how they crave independence, but at the same time that has to be balanced with the convenience and trust that parents need. We’ve listened to families and have built a great experience for both teens and parents,” said Michael Carr, VP of Amazon Households. “For teens who have a parent with a Prime membership, they can also access Prime benefits at no additional cost, including fast, free shipping, Prime Video and gaming benefits with Twitch Prime.”

Through a teens account, 13 to 17-year olds can find something they want to order, and place an order through the Amazon app. The information for this order – including what the item is, the cost, shipping address and payment information – is sent to parents via text or email. By default, parents must approve each order, but this can be changed to the aforementioned pre-approved spending limit. In addition, teens can add a personalised note to their order to inform their parents why they are making the purchase.
