Amazon Prime Made $6.4bn in 2016

Amazon PrimeAmazons subscription packages – most notably the Prime service – brought in revenues of $6.4bn (£5.1bn) in 2016, up 43.1 per cent year-on-year.

Thats according to an SEC filing made by the retailer, which broke out Prime revenues for the first time. In 2015, Amazon made $4.5bn from subscription services – including audiobook, eBook, digital video, digital music, and other subscription services, as per the filing, but comes mostly from Prime customers – up from $2.8bn in 2014.

The amount is hardly anything to sniff at, but its still far behind Amazons core retail business, which brought in $91.4bn last year; its third-party seller service, at $23bn; and cloud computing business Amazon Web Services, at $12.2bn.

The US is the retailers biggest market, pulling in revenues of $90.3bn in 2016. Perhaps more surprisingly, Germany is the second biggest at $14.1bn. Japan overtook the UK last year to take third place, with $10.8bn and $9.5bn respectively. Combined revenues from the rest of the world, meanwhile, brought in $11.1bn.
