Amazon to charge $2.8m for NFL advertising packages

NFLAmazon is reportedly hoping to charge advertisers $2.8m (£2.2m) for packages including 30-second spots during the 10 Thursday night Football games it will stream to Prime customers in the coming season.

According to Reuters, the packages will include ads across Amazon.com for the duration of the season, but Amazon are looking to lure advertisers in with the NFL games as a centre point.

“We are offering a range of options at various price points, depending on advertiser objectives,” Amazon representative Kristin Mariani told Reuters.

Amazon is paying $50m to stream the 10 Thursday night games, despite Twitter only paying $10m for the same amount of games last year. In addition, the 10 games be shown at the same time on either CBS or NBC, which have five games each. This is important because advertisers would be able to get TV ad packages for significantly less money on CBS and NBC, as well as having the assurance that their ads will be viewed by a massive number of people – as the NFL consistently draws in the biggest audiences on US TV.

For each game, Amazon will be able to sell 10 30-second spots, which will run on the livestream as local ads air on network TV.
