Amazon Unveils Fire TV Streaming Box

AmazonFireTV_HomeScreen_Front (1)Amazon has revealed Fire TV, a streaming box that connects to the users TV.

As with the companys Kindle Fire tablets, runs on a custom version of Android, with a wide selection of apps. As well as Amazons own Instant Video service, the Fire TV will offer video from Netflix, ESPN, Disney, YouTube, Hulu and more.

The device will also offer gaming apps, including Minecraft, NBA2K14 and Despicable Me: Minion Rush, with Amazon citing an average price of $1.85 for a game.

The device, which costs $99 (£60), features 2GB RAM and a quad-core processor, and connects to the internet via dual-band wi-fi. Theres an accompanying miniature remote control, connected via Bluetooth.

Video and entertainment are areas that Amazon has shown a lot of interest in, ever since it launched entertainment division Amazon Studios in 2010. More recently, it changed its Amazon Prime service to include video streaming – and just yesterday, it announced that it had exclusive rights to US TV show 24, ahead of the programmes comeback next month.
