Amazon is looking to add more regional content to Prime Video in India, after seeing the South Asia nation become its fastest growing market for the service just over a year after launching there.
Since launching the service in India, Amazon has gambled on delivering original Hindi shows and a library of films in five local languages. Beyond these, it has been seeking to broaden its film catalogue to include southern Indian languages like Tamil and Telugu.
“We want to figure out how do we do more in the South,” James Farrell, head of Asia-Pacific content at Amazon Prime Video, told Reuters. “We haven’t announced any originals yet from the south but we are looking to do as much as can be done.”
Amazon eyeing up an expansion to its video presence comes after it launched its Prime Music service in India last month. With the introduction, Prime customers in India now have access to 10s of millions of songs from across international and Indian music labels in languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi, and Bengali.
