Amazon has introduced a service that gives fashion customers the chance to try on pieces of clothing and return them for free if you don’t like them.
Prime Wardrobe, which is currently in beta, enables Prime members the chance to turn their homes into fitting rooms, meaning they can try on a variety of styles and sizes to find the perfect fit. The customer has seven days to decide what they wish to keep, and anything they choose not to keep will be picked up from their doorstep or their nearest UPS location.
Within the program, more than 1m items are eligible across men’s, women’s, kids’, shoes, and accessories. The customer can purchase between three and 15 items, which will arrive inside a Prime Wardrobe box – that is also used to send any unwanted clothing back.
Orders through Prime Wardrobe also offer customers the chance to save money. If the customer keeps three or four items, they will receive 10 per cent off. If they keep five or more items, they will be rewarded with 20 per cent off. Shipping and returns are free.
The service is very similar to the one offered by the clothes box companies like Trunk Club and Bombfell – though in both those instances a heavy emphasis is placed on personal styling, as opposed to the customer choosing for themselves. It is possible, however, that Amazon may look to align the Wardrobe service with its Echo Look device, which acts as a style advisor to help the user pick outfits.
