Android was the top smartphone platform in China last year, according to Beijing-based Analysys International. At the end of 2011, Android had 68.4 per cent of the smartphone OS market by handsets sold, a growth of 35 per cent at the end of Q1, 2011.
That growth comes at the expense of Nokias Symbian OS, which dropped to less than half its market share, down to 18.7 per cent. That still places it ahead of Apple, however, which holds 5.7 per cent – up from 4.1 per cent at the start of the year. The company says that it still sees China – the worlds largest market for mobile phones, with 998m subscribers – as a key growth market.
