comScore has released its monthly data dump from its mobiLens service, for the three month period up to the end of August.
Operating systems
Android consolidated its position as the leading OS in the US, growing its market share from 52.2 per cent for the three months to the end of July, to 52.6 per cent for the three months to the end of August.
Apple also increased its market share, from 33.4 per cent to 34.3 per cent. RIM, in third place, suffered another drop in market share, from 9.5 per cent to 8.3 per cent.
Manufacturers
With 25.7 per cent of all US mobile subscribers using one of its handsets, Samsung maintained its place as the leading manufacturer over the period. LG was in swecond place on 18.2 per cent, with Apple closing in, increasing its market share from 16.3 per cent to 17.1 per cent.
Users
116.5m people in US now own smartphones, up from 114m in the previous period. – an increase of seven per cent since April. Thats virtually half of the entire US mobile userbase, which totalled 234m during the period.
