Android Pay Launching in the US This Week?

mobile payments nfc cashGoogle is likely to begin the rollout of its new mobile payment solution, Android Pay, in the US later this week, with leaked documents suggesting that the first wave of retailers will accept payments from Wednesday.

According to an employee notice sent to a number of McDonalds branches within the US, Android Pay will be available for customers to use from 26 August, enabling owners of compatible devices to pay using NFC.

McDonalds and Macys have been confirmed as two of the brands who will launch the service with Google, with over 700,000 stores and restaurants expected to accept the payment solution after the initial rollout.

The McDonalds notice was first shared by Android Police, which notes that Google traditionally releases new apps and updates existing ones on Wednesday, meaning this launch date would fit the established pattern.

However, the notice also states that Samsung Pay will be launching on 21 August, a date which has now been pushed back, so there is a possibility that the information is incorrect or outdated.

Notices about Android Pays impending launch have been appearing in a number of US retailers for the past few weeks, but this is the first notice that has given us an idea of how close the launch might actually be.
