Angry Orchard launches interactive AR app

Angry Orchard Cider Company is launching an interactive app that will use augmented reality to give drinkers a unique and informative experience. Using Cider+Food, customers can access exclusive food recipes and pairings for four of Angry Orchards core ciders: Crisp Apple, Rosé, Easy Apple and Pear.

The app, which is guided by head cider maker Ryan Burk, features both video and picture content when a customer points their phone camera at one of Angry Orchards core cider bottle. Customers can also take a 360-degree virtual tour of the trees within Angry Orchard’s cidery located in Walden, New York.

“Hard cider deserves a place at the table. The unique flavors and high-quality ingredients in our styles complement and enhance the food pairing experience that is most often associated with wine,” said Burk. “Our new Cider+Food App allows us to share some of our favorite pairings, and what weve come to know and love about cider at the table. Were excited to share our passion through this experience and leverage a new platform to encourage drinkers to explore and celebrate cider.”

Food+Cider, which was developed by technology partner Rightpoint, uses machine learning and computer vision to access the core style and size of the bottle being pointed at. Currently, the app is only available for iOS devices.
