Apple Bringing Credit Card Scanning to Safari on iOS 8

shutterstock_156659969Apple is introducing a feature in the iOS 8 version of its Safari web browser that enables users to input their credit card details using the devices camera.

First spotted by 9to5Mac, the feature doesnt required anything extra on the side of website developers don’t have to do anything to enable. Safari automatically detects when a site is requesting a credit card number and presents the scan option above the virtual keyboard.

The feature looks set to remove a lot of the manual fiddliness from the mobile purchase process, and might make business harder for companies like Jumio and PayPal-owned Card.io for whom credit card scanning is their main offering.
