Apple Sells 9m iPhones in Three Days

Apple has sold 9m iPhone 5s and 5c models since they launched three days ago. In addition, there are over 200m devices running the updated iOS7 software, which Apple says makes it the fastest software upgrade in history. To put the handset sales in perspective, BlackBerry revealed over the weekend that is had shipped 3.7m smartphones in the last three months.

Both Apple handsets are available in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. The iPhone 5s is available in the UK for a suggested retail price of £549 for the 16GB model, or £629 (32GB), and £709 (64GB). The iPhone 5c comes is available in the UK for a suggested retail price of £469 (16GB), and £549 for the 32GB model.

Commenting on the inevitable supply shortage, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
