Apple says it sold over 300,000 iPads in the US as of midnight Saturday, 3 April, though as this figure includes deliveries to channel partners, in addition to deliveries of pre-ordered iPads to customers, and sales at Apple Retail Stores, its not clear from the release whether all 300,000 have actually been sold out to customers. Apple also announced that iPad users downloaded over 1 million apps from Apples App Store and over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the first day.
“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world, its going to be a game changer,” says Apple CEO, Steve Jobs. “iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”
The iPad launched in the US on Saturday, and launches in the UK at the end of the month.
