Apple Shows Maps Man the Door

The problems with the iOS 6 Maps app made it one of the industrys biggest go-to jokes for the last couple of months. It was an unusual slip for a company which trades on slick reputation as much as Apple – and now Scott Forstall, the man responsible for the app, seems to have paid for the mistake.

After 15 years at Apple, Forstall will be leaving the company in 2013, and in the meantime will serve as advisor to CEO Tim Cook.

Reports suggest that Forstall refused to Apples public apology for the Maps app, which was instead issued under Cooks name.

But while its not particularly difficult – and rather fun – to speculate about why Apple let Forstall go, its part of a larger reshuffle, which will also see head of retail John Browett leave the company, and new responsibilities for a whole host of other staff.
