Apple’s augmented reality headset is reportedly coming in 2020

A new report from Ming-Chi Kuo, a Chinese Apple analyst, has predicted the release of multiple new Apple products in the first half of 2020, including the iPhone SE 2, new iPad Pro models, and the long-awaited augmented reality headset. While the design of the headset is not confirmed, Kuo speculates it could look like glasses or an AR helmet.

Kuo’s original Chinese-language report was translated by 9to5Mac, which noted that “Apple will collaborate with ‘third-party brands’ to release its first round of iPhone accessory augmented-reality headsets.” Kuo did warn consumers that they will have to wait to purchase the AR headset until Q2 2020.

Apple products being released in the first quarter of next year include the iPhone SE 2, which will look much like the iPhone 8, but will include the same chip set as the iPhone 11. A new model of the iPad Pro could be released in Q1 as well, and is expected to include a rear-facing 3D time-of-flight sensor that would optimize augmented reality performance.

Kuo also mentioned the possibility of a new MacBook coming in Q2 2020, but isn’t sure of the specific version (Air, Pro, etc.). The report allures to the idea of a completely redesigned scissor-switch keyboard for the new laptop, moving away from the classic butterfly keyboard.
