Arriva Brings Real-time GPS Updates to Buses

UK bus operator Arriva has relaunched its iOS app – but alongside the usual stop details and departure times, the company is also introducing real-time bus updates.
Developer HaCon has deployed HAFAS Smart VMS technology on over 4,000 Arriva buses in the UK. This technology gathers GPS data in real time, which can then be fed to passenger information systems.
These real-time updates arent currently available to consumers, but Arriva promises it will integrate them into the app early next year. 
“Arriva has been at the forefront of the bus industry in the UK in mobile technology for a number of years and with HaCon’s system we will be able to maintain our position as innovators, while delivering real benefits to our customers,” said Mike Woodhouse, marketing manager for Arriva UK.
