Asda Creates AR Easter Egg Hunt with Zappar

An augmented reality bunny will guide Asda shoppers around 400 stores this Easter after the supermarket teamed up with Zappar to create a digital treasure hunt.

The technology has been incorporated into the Asda shopping app and users have to download it to get started. The hunt, which takes place on Saturday 23 March, has been made possible after Asda installed wi-fi across its store in January. Hunters must find the eggs and collect the letters behind them to spell and word and win a prize.

People will also be able to pose for photos and videos with the bunny to share with friends and participants will get an AR mask to take home that when zapped, replaces the wearer’s head with that of the easter bunny. Staff will  have iPads to give out to people for the hunt if they don’t have a smartphone.

Steph Hughes, Head of Events Marketing at Asda, said: “The AR Easter Egg Hunt is a great way to get across the Asda personality and another example of how Asda stores are a destination for mums and kids. We are really excited to be embracing this new technology and incorporating it into the Asda app.”
