Asda Launches Transactional Shopping App

Asda has announced the launch of a transactional mobile app, which will allow iPhone users to buy groceries online and price check the total cost against other supermarkets. If the total cost of a customers shopping is not 10 per cent cheaper than it would be at rival supermarket chains – including Tesco, Sainburys and Waitrose – they will receive a voucher.

The app, which is free, also has an integrated scanner, enabling customers to add products to their basket by scanning the barcode, and includes a store locator, with maps and directions.

Kate Cuthbertson, Asda’s head of mobile strategy says: “More than 60 per cent of customers who access the Asda.com mobile website do so using iPhones, so we’ve created an app that allows them to shop – and price check – on the move. Our mobile strategy is moving at pace with more new developments planned into the New Year.”

The retailer launched a mobile-optimised site in August, and an Asda Price Guarantee iPhone app in October 2010. Asda says it is currently working on a version of the app for Android.
